Matthew's batting practice

Sometimes people ask me what do I do on the weekends. Well here you go.

My responsibility as a mommy to boys is to document events of the children, like batting practice for example. They are too old now for me to actually practice with them so I have taken to video taping the experience.

He got hit with the ball in the cage (because he was not paying attention) but seems to be willing to go back out and give it a go. Seems texting your friends during practice is a bad idea...

Dan says Matthew looks pretty good. We'll find out for sure on Saturday because they have their first game. He is going to play 3rd base and pitch-which makes me nervous.

Keep your fingers crossed for a home run!

Michael gets a super deal at the mall

I can't believe how big he is getting! He seems so grown up.

I tried to get him something at Gap Kids but that was totally out of the question. "That's for babies and little kids, Mom."

Mike on cover of Tandem Summer Program

Michael was all excited when we got the summer program because he made it on the cover. He doesn't look so excited here but says he was having fun. All in all, he has decided that he doesn't want to go back again this year. I guess his fame at Tandem is on hold for now.

at the maple festival

We went to the Maple Festival in Highland's county, Virginia. It was so much fun and we had pancakes, ham and sausage for breakfast then real maple doughnuts. They are sinful! We then toured the sugar camps and learned what it takes to make maple syrup. You can check out the website at www.highlandcounty.org

Below is one of the price lists from the cheapest camp we found along with a little info. YUMMY!

The spring babies are so cute! Don't get too close to mom, she doesn't like that.

Here is how they tap the tree to get the sap out. Very high tech system.

The tree sap is then cooked for 8hrs to reduce the sap down to sugar. It takes 50 gallons of sap to make one gallon of maple syrup. No wonder it is so expensive!

Naughty Animal Behavior

The cats are indoor/outdoor cats but like to come in to warm up and let us know they demand soft cat food in addition to their hard food. Well, we were running low on soft cat food so it has been on ration for a couple of days. That is not to their satisfaction so Tiger decided to tear up the newspaper to express his discontent. Hmmm... Is there a cat whisperer out there? I think we might need some backup here.

basement update

Some updated pictures of the basement. Here you can see the suspended ceiling and the first coat of paint in the beer kitchen. The lighting is not really capturing the color because it is really a bit brighter. Everyone loves it who first sees it, so I am glad because we agonized over the color. Yellow in the main room and blue in the bedroom are the colors to come-so stay tuned.

Handscraped Hickory is the name. Figuring out how to lay flooring is the game. This is an upclose shot of the flooring which we will be installing soon. Can't wait to see how that turns out.
It is a brand new product called swiftlock and it includes the subflooring which is attached to the wood. Pretty cool.
The ceiling fans have gone up and they are gorgeous. They have a pewter finish and mahagony colored blades.
The bench now has it's beech wood cover and the door hinges will be next. I love that we will have all of that space for storage.
